Another Beginning!

Our beautiful daughter, Brooklyn Leah Harper was born on Sunday, July 31st, 2011.  We were able to take her home from the hospital on Wednesday, August 3rd.  I think my husband summed up my feelings pretty well after we got her all buckled in to our car seat and were driving out of the hospital parking lot.  He looked at me, still clearly in awe, and said, "Do we really get to keep her?"  We did.  And we have.  We've 'kept' her for the past three weeks and we've both been loving every minute of it.  I still like to sit and just stare at her, our little miracle baby that, for a long time, I wasn't sure was ever going to happen (Kelly always managed to stay positive though, I'm still amazed by his faith).

These first three weeks of her life may very possibly have been the best three weeks of my life.  In her three short weeks she has definitely been well-traveled!  We spent the first few days quietly at home so I had some time to heal, spent quite a bit of time her second week of life house-sitting at Kelly's dad's when they were on vacation, got her newborn pictures taken (I am eagerly awaiting seeing the final proofs!), and went to a wedding of a friend of mine from high school.  Starting her third week of life, we went out to the farm to vist my parents twice, had her two-week follow-up appointment (she gained 10 oz. and grew 2 inches in her first two weeks of life!), went on a trip to Detroit Lakes, went on an all-day shopping trip in Fargo, and had two parties in her honor (which came with a myriad of amazing gifts! I'm looking forward to sending out announcements/thank you cards as soon as we get her newborn pictures back!).

Mommy and Daddy are definitely adjusting to less sleep.  We are very blessed though in the regards that Brooklyn is a very good baby.  She typically wakes up twice during the night (once at 3 a.m. and once at 6 a.m.) and as soon as she's fed, changed, and re-swaddled, she's typically right back to sleep.  She seldom cries, and when she does, it never takes long to figure out why she's crying.  As soon as we fix whatever the problem is (99% of the time, she's hungry), she's content again.  She's definitely a little cuddle bug!  During the day, she takes quite a few naps on Mommy's chest.  And so far, in her three weeks, she's only spit up a handful of times.  As I type this, she's currently snuggling on the couch with Daddy. =] She's already doing a pretty good job at holding her head up and she's managed to roll onto her side a few times, she hasn't quite managed to completely roll over yet though.

Daddy went back to work yesterday and Mommy goes back to work on the 27th.  Thankfully though, we have opposite schedules so our little peanut will always be either Mommy or Daddy, at least for now. =] I'll do my best to keep us updated over here!  We're currently without a working computer at home for the moment though, so blog updates will be dependent upon when we're visiting someone who does have Internet.  We look forward to sharing our adventures with you!
